Asian style Undergravel Filter Box

The Asian style Undergravel Filter Box is a unique way to filter your shrimp tank. It works by pulling water slowly through the media to the bottom of the box and pushing it out the tube at the top.  This allows for a large amount of media to be used, and due to the water slowly passing through it ensure that the media or soil always stays oxygenated and that no dead spots occur.

Due to the lower resistance of the filter, it allows for a much higher flow rate when compared to a normal sponge filter. These filters have been tested to filter an average of 10-30gal. If given enough pressure and air, the filter can reach almost double the flow rate.

We offer 3 sizes of   Undergravel Filter Box:

1. 4”x4:x4” Suitable for 5 Gal tank
2. 75”x4.75”x4.75” for 10 Gal tank
3. 8”x4”x4” for 20 Gal tank

A great advantage of the filter is that it requires minimal maintenance over its life span. It’s recommended to only clean the filter when you restart your tank, or if your soil buffering capability has run out (Normally 1-2 years).  Replacing them is as simple as removing the box from the tank, removing the content, giving it a rinse and then filling it back up. If you have a backup filter that has been pre-cycled you can instantly replace it in your tank to keep on running.

The Undergravel Filter Box is a box you are free to experiment and optimize as you wish. You can add any media or soil to it in any quantities. If you are looking to buffer your water and are worried less about biological filtration, you can fill the entire box with buffering substrate. This will still provide biological filtration, as a large amount of bacteria lives on your substrate.

• Higher adjustable tubing (Maximum height 15”)
• Coarse foam pad

Kindly note that this kit does not include buffering soil.
